Northern Sea Oats are a native to North America, including southern Illinois. They are a beautiful addition to prairie style landscaping, but can reseed generously if not deadheaded in fall. They grow to about 3.5 feet tall in moist soil and full sun, and while they prefer sun, can tolerate moderate shade but will grow somewhat shorter and produce less seed.
