This native perennial blooms in early summer with spikes of small flowers that are white to soft lilac. Standing roughly 3 feet tall, the flowers mature to seed pods that are very attractive to birds in winter. The burgundy leaves are a nice contrast against other greenery in the landscape.

Plants prefer full sun and can tolerate dry soil but are also a good candidate for the drier edges of a rain garden.

Photo shows a mature plant, these plants are 2nd year seedlings and should bloom this season.

Plants reseed moderately.

Penstemon (Beardtongue)
