Purple Sensation has 4"- to 5"-wide, violet-purple globes made up of dozens of starry florets. Bees and pollinators love the firework shaped bloom heads, and they make a long lasting cut flower as well. Expect a height of up to 30", with blooms appearing in late May and holding for weeks on the plant. 
 
In the fall, select a sunny spot with well-drained soil, and plant your bulbs at least 6" deep and 6-12" apart. These plants will very slowly perennialize, so give them a bit of room so they can spread. 
 
Bulbs can be planted in fall anytime before the ground freezes, but late October/early November is best in northern Illinois.
